Gai Jatra

Gai Jatra festival, the procession of cows, generally falls in the month of Bhadra, which correspond to English calendar months of  August/September.The festival of cows is one of the most popular festivals in Nepal. It is said people in ancient time started worshiping Yamaraj,"the god of death" on this day. However, the modern form of celebration of Gai Jatra came into existence in the medieval period of Nepal during the reign of Malla Kings. The present form of Gai Jatra with humorous acts, parody, comedy and was started by then King of Kathmandu PratPratap Malla. He made Rani Pokhari (Pond) in the heart of Kathmandu and build a temple in the middle of the small pond. Janai Purnima Those who celebrate it as Janai Purnima in the hilly regions of Nepal, it is taken as a day when the men from the Brahmin community undertake the annual changing of their holy thread that marks their coming of age ceremony. Early morning, they take a bath, visit nearby temple and from the hands of a Pundit, they change the holy thread or Janai. Besides, it is also the day when pundits tie ‘Raksha Bandhan Doro’ in the hands of the Brahmin and Chhetri community. The doro or the thread is symbolic of the well wishes of the loved ones forsafety and happiness. The thread that is tied on this day is supposed to be worn all throughout the day and until a few months later which is then tied to the tail of the cow in Tihar or Diwali. Raksha Bandhan

RAKSHA-BANDHAN   The festival, which expresses love, care and duty among brother and sister also with joy and happiness, is called “Raksha Bandhan”. The meaning of Raksha Bandhan is “the tie or knot of protection” where Raksha means protection and Bandhan means knot. So, when sister tie a knot on her brother’s wrist, brother gives her promises in return that he will take care of her throughout her life in all circumstances.  Raksha Bandhan is the favorite festival of siblings or cousin brother sister. To celebrate this auspicious day, ladies starts preparation many days before such as they buy rakhi made up of colorful threads and stones from the market. Hi!I am Sneha Basnet. A student of grade eight. Here to share my experience of visiting Jadibuti . was very nice. We had gone to Herbs Production And Processing Co. Ltd ( KOteshwor, Kathmandu) . We went with Bijay and Mahendre sir. We have learned about different types of herbals plants.I have learned about different types of herbal plants like  bojo , sancho, Tulsi , barro , sishnu , etc. We have  made some  question there our answer were responded properly by the members of the Herbs Production and Processing Co. Ltd . That day was the better day .
